US wine professionals learn Georgian winemaking technology on tour

A group of sommeliers and representatives from the American company Colangelo & Partners, a contractor of the Georgian National Wine Agency, have visited domestic wine producing companies in Kakheti and Kartli regions of the country as part of a tour organised by the Agency, the body said on Friday.

It added the visiting professionals learned about Georgian winemaking technology and tasted wines made using both classical and traditional methods, with the Agency also hosting a tasting event in Tbilisi where wines from 20 domestic producers were  featured.

The US is a strategic market for Georgian wine, and the Agency is actively implementing a marketing campaign with financial and organisational support to boost wine exports”, the body said.

The Agency also said CNN had featured an advertising clip on the subject, while CBS had run a TV report on Georgian wine as part of the media campaign in the US.

Between January and April, Georgian producers exported up to 364,000 litres of wine to the US - a 47 percent increase from the previous year - ranking the country sixth among countries importing Georgian wines, the Agency said.
