Georgian Health Minister, WHO Europe Director sign 2024-2027 healthcare cooperation strategy

Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze and Hans Kluge, the World Health Organisation Regional Director for Europe on Wednesday signed a 2024-2027 healthcare cooperation strategy in Geneva within the scope of the WHO’s annual Assembly. 

The Ministry said the document aimed to improve access for Georgian citizens to “equal, high-quality, inclusive and human-oriented” health services, reduce health-related factors and morbidity and strengthen prevention, preparedness and response capabilities.

The meeting also discussed joint projects and bilateral cooperation. Kluge emphasised the availability of medications for oncology patients in Georgia and noted the recent changes were “a great step forward” and an “important step” taken by the Minister and his office.

Sarjveladze noted the access to medications for cancer patients had become feasible after introduction of a direct purchase procedure for innovative medicines and noted a plan to obtain cancer treatment drugs has been proceeding in a close collaboration with the WHO’s Georgian office.
