The European Parliament stands with the people of Georgia, the Parliament President Roberta Metsola said on Tuesday.

In her social media post, Metsola noted Georgians on the streets, protesting the adoption of the controversial domestic bill on transparency of foreign influence earlier today, were “dreaming of Europe” and “proudly waving the European flag”.

Tbilisi, we hear you! We see you!”, the European Parliament President stressed, adding that Georgian people “expect European values and standards” and “want a European future”.

The Georgian Parliament today adopted in the final hearing the transparency bill, which calls for the registration of non-commercial legal entities and media outlets in the country as “pursuing the interests of a foreign power” if they derive more than 20 percent of their funding from abroad, on the backdrop of ongoing public protests.
