Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said “neither Maidan Uprising nor any other type of revolutionary scenarios” could not be implemented in Georgia as the country’s citizens knew the “price of peace and economic progress”.

Kobakhidze said the opposition United National Movement party had “no resources” for revolution, and noted the Government had “already defended the country twice during these three years from the attempted revolution and would do so “in the third case as well”.

When it comes to Maidan [large public protest in Kyiv in 2013-2014, resulting in the Maidan Revolution in Ukraine], it is certainly not [former Ukrainian President] Viktor Yanukovych's Ukraine, nor is it Georgia of 2003 [Rose Revolution that brought UNM into power], when the institutions were weakened for obvious reasons, what happened in Ukraine is a separate topic. Therefore, it is impossible to put an equal sign here, the state stands in its place, our institutions are as strong as ever, the government team is as strong, united as ever”, he said.

“In such a situation, the radicals will naturally not be able to achieve their goal either by violence or similar acts. This is the general picture, the state today is sovereign, independent, and this is the guarantee that there will be no disorder in Georgia. This is also a guarantee that we will definitely fulfil our state obligations”, he added.

People appreciate everything, people know the price of peace, the price of economic progress, and therefore, the historic record of support that GD has had since 2012 is determined by all of this”, the PM said.

The official also noted the ruling Georgian Dream party had about 60 percent of citizens support, and added “political minority will not be able to organise any revolution in this country”.
