Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said he had discussed the controversial domestic bill on transparency of foreign influence with Charles Michel, the President of the European Council.
In his social media post the PM noted he had conveyed his “disappointment” at the country’s partners' “reluctance to engage in substantive discussions” on the draft law.
Furthermore, I highlighted that we have not yet heard any counter arguments against this proposed legislation, which is solely aimed at promoting transparency and accountability of relevant organisations vis-à-vis Georgian society”, he said.
I brought to the attention of the President of the European Council the active involvement of foreign-funded organisations in two attempted revolutions in Georgia between 2020 and 2023”, the PM added.
The Head of the Government also said he had emphasised the enactment of the legislative piece was a “crucial prerequisite for achieving depolarization, which is the main recommendation of the European Union”.
