Kaha Imnadze, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Asia and the Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, on Thursday highlighted the importance of promoting peaceful conflict resolution and deepening international cooperation to prevent future conflicts at a conference dedicated to the UN General Assembly resolution declaring 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.

In his address at the conference, titled Advancing the Peace: Implementing Strategies to Build Trust among Countries, Imnadze stressed the need to “get the multilateralism back on peaceful, diplomatic track”, restore trust between the countries, apply the culture of respectful dialogue and non-confrontational approach.

Imnadze emphasised that the UN member states should reaffirm their commitments to the principles of the UN Charter, “so the international community can overcome the prevailing global challenges to which no country, big or small, is immune”, the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia said.

The event, organised by the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan jointly with the UN Office in the country, was attended by high-ranking representatives of organisations of the UN system, diplomatic missions and international organisations, as well as government agencies.

The conference participants discussed political, humanitarian and economic mechanisms for “resolving disputes and building trust”, as well as the role of international organisations, including the UN and OSCE, in supporting and facilitating peace processes.
