Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Friday said the “high growth” of the domestic economy was an “important factor” for ensuring more economic activity of women.

Speaking at event organised by the Business Federation ‘Women for Tomorrow’, Davitashvili said the Government was supporting legislative initiatives to strengthen the role of women in the economy.

He said acceleration of structural reforms in line with European Union priorities and work on large infrastructure projects were among the Government’s “main priorities”.

We have had a high economic growth over the last three years, [and] our expectations are quite optimistic this year as well, which you, the entrepreneurs, can probably appreciate”, he told the event.

According to the International Monetary Fund, the future medium-term growth forecast [for domestic economy] is 5.2 percent. I must point out that such forecasts are always conservative, and we are also conservative in our planning. However, our task is to make the economic growth higher than this rate”, Davitashvili said.

Deputy Economy Minister Irakli Nadareishvili also spoke at the event and introduced women entrepreneurs to the progress of the capital market reform.

The Ministry of Economy said speakers at the event discussed issues that included economic indicators and forecasts, policies to promote investment, development of large infrastructure projects, directions for development of the business sector and mechanisms to support women entrepreneurs in the process.
