Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani on Thursday said the Ministry had “a specific plan” to increase the compatibility of the country’s Defence Forces with NATO.

He noted that Georgia’s relationship with the Alliance was at “a historic high”, highlighting the cooperation mechanisms between the country and NATO as “exceptional” and saying “practically no other state has it”.

Georgian military participation in joint exercises and operations is a clear indication of the country’s relations with the Alliance, Chikovani added, who is part of the Georgian delegation’s visit to Germany, led by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

In his comments to the media, the Defence Minister also highlighted the importance of Kobakhidze’s visit to Berlin as the Head of the Government of the European Union membership candidate country.

Chikovani also noted that Georgia had already carried out “many reforms” and would continue to implement them, stressing the country would “certainly” become a member of the EU.

The Georgian delegation in Germany will meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Bärbel Bas, the President of Bundestag.
