US Deputy Iran Envoy highlights “productive meetings” with Georgian officials regarding sanctions enforcement against Iran

Abram Paley, the United States Deputy Special Envoy for Iran, on Tuesday highlighted the “productive meetings” with Alexander Khvtisiashvili, the Deputy Foreign Minister, the representatives of the National Bank of Georgia and commercial banks regarding the sanctions enforcement against Iran.

At the meetings, held in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi within the framework of Paley’s visit to the country, the discussion touched on the Iranian regime and the US’s ongoing efforts to address the regime’s “broader destabilising behaviour”, Paley said in his social media post.

At the meeting with Natia Turnava, the Acting Governor of the NBG, the sides discussed the existing geopolitical challenges, as well as the measures taken by the Bank to ensure the implementation of the sanctions against Iran. It was noted by Paley that the relevant measures in this regard were taken in a “timely and efficient manner”, the NBG said.

The US Deputy Special Envoy also visited Georgia’s neighbouring countries Azerbaijan and Armenia, as part of his visit to the South Caucasus region.
