Anri Okhanashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee, on Tuesday said it was “regrettable” that Zurab Adeishvili, a wanted former Prosecutor General of Georgia under the previous United National Movement Government, had represented Ukraine in official visits to The Hague.

Okhanashvili’s comments followed an Imedi TV report that said Adeishvili had visited the city as part of a Ukrainian delegation on Tuesday.

“Of course, it is sad when this person represents Ukraine, and Ukraine is not handing him over to us”, the lawmaker said.

In his comments, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party in the Parliament, said Adeishvili was a “cruel, bloody criminal and torturer”.

He noted it was “unacceptable that this person can move freely on the streets of Europe”.

Nino Tsilosani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the Georgian Parliament's Vice Speaker, said it was “regrettable” that Ukraine had been represented by Adeishvili and the imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili, individuals she said were “completely discredited” in the country.

The Georgian Government last month raised “concerns” about visits and meetings that were hosted by the European Union and German authorities and involved Adeishvili as a member of a Ukrainian delegation.

The Government said the former official had been “one of the masterminds” behind the “repressive” UNM “regime” that had “continuously trampled principles of democratic and legal statehood” along with “basic human rights and freedoms”, as well as independence of the Georgian judiciary.

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has asked Dutch authorities to arrest and extradite Zurab Adeishvili.

The Office said the appeal had been made following reports of Adeishvili’s visit to The Hague on Tuesday as part of an official delegation of Ukraine to attend an international conference entitled Restoring Justice for Ukraine.
