Soso Giorgadze, the Chair of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia, is in Moldova for the launch of a €4 million EU4IP project aiming to strengthen intellectual property rights in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
The body said on Tuesday the launch of the project was based on outcomes of the three-year EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project.
During the official launch ceremony, Giorgadze highlighted the work accomplished in Georgia through the EUGIPP project, including legislative amendments to regulatory acts related to trademarks, design, copyright and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
The new EU4IP project will support adoption of European and international best practices in order to “create a favourable environment for innovation, creativity and free competition” in the participating countries, the body said.
This will promote economic and cultural development in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, bolster the potential of small and medium-sized enterprises and raise the level of investment attractiveness in these countries”, it added.
The cooperation will “pave the way” for accession of the three candidate countries to the EU and its Intellectual Property Network, the centre also noted.
The launch event also included the heads of national IP offices of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania.
