The European Union Delegation to Georgia on Monday said the bloc considered polling stations opened in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia for the Russian presidential election without consent of the Georgian Government “illegal”.

The statement noted the EU remained “fully committed” to Georgia’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The French foreign office also condemned the setting up of the polling stations in the “separatist regions”, as well as the region of Transnistria in Moldova, without consent of the Georgian or Moldovan authorities.
