Adina-Ioana Vălean, the European Commissioner for Transport, on Monday highlighted Georgia's role in the development of transport links between Europe and Central Asia at the Investors Forum for EU-Central Asia Transport Connectivity in Brussels.

The political messages that Georgia has voiced on the way to join the European family are very noteworthy - a pragmatic approach to what is the real investment need in the Middle Corridor, where Georgia is assigned a significant role”, Vălean said.

The Georgian Ministry of Economy cited Vălean as saying the maritime connection through the Black Sea to Europe was of “great importance” to Georgia.

We look forward to investment and support to develop this relationship even further”, she added.

The Ministry said the participants of the two-day Forum would discuss the 2023 study by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which aimed to identify the most sustainable and promising routes between Europe and Central Asia, over the next two days at the event.

A separate session will be devoted to the role of Georgia and other partner countries in connecting Europe and Central Asia, where steps taken for the development of the Middle Corridor - including current and planned investments in transport infrastructure - will be discussed.
