Security Police Department employees among eight arrested for theft

Georgian police officers have arrested eight individuals, including two employees of the Security Police Department of the Georgian Interior Ministry, for theft of fuel. 

The Ministry said on Tuesday it had established the offenders had siphoned a “large amount” of fuel from a carriage in a rail yard in capital Tbilisi using a specially installed pump.

About 1.5 tons of fuel and 127 empty fuel containers were seized by police officers in the case, the body added.

The crime is punishable by between four and seven years in prison.
