Georgian ruling party MP elected for European law organisation commission

Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chair of the Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration Committee in the Georgian Parliament from the ruling Georgian Dream party, has been elected a member of the Global Rule of Law Commission in the European Public Law Organisation, TV Imedi reported on Monday.

The Georgian lawmaker, along with other 16 professionals from across the world, will work to develop a “comprehensive global concept” of rule of law with respect to “universal values and diversity”, and ensure advice and expertise on the judiciary matters if requested.

Sarjveladze is scheduled to participate in the inaugural ceremony involving Commission members in Lisbon, Portugal, between January 10-11.

Launched by EPLO in 2019 in cooperation with the United Nations, the Commission aims to promote public law and governance worldwide. It hosts seminars and courses in law, programmes for educational institutions, and its own degree programmes, in addition to other activities.
