The current counter-terrorist situation in the world, the wider region and Georgia was discussed on Sunday in a meeting of the Inter-agency Standing Commission for Developing and Monitoring Implementation of the National Strategy and Action Plan for Combating Terrorism.
The meeting led by Grigol Liluashvili, the Head of the Georgian State Security Service, focused on the efforts made by the Georgian Government in the fight against international terrorism and “successful cooperation” with international partners, the Georgian State Security Service said.
It is important that the counter-terrorist activities carried out by Georgia, as in previous years, were positively assessed in the latest report of the United States Department of State. The mentioned document states that our country has the ability to detect, deter and respond to terrorist incidents, and Georgia is considered a strong partner of the United States”, he said.
Liluashvili also noted that the European Commission had “positively” assessed Georgia's capabilities in the fight against terrorism.
Bacha Mgeladze, the Head of the Counter-terrorist Centre, informed the meeting about the counter-terrorist environment in the country and the activities carried out and planned by the service, including important counter-terrorist operations conducted in 2023.
Liluashvili thanked all agencies for the work done during the year to carry out the activities provided by the action plan.
