Famed former players who represented Inter Milan across the years, from Luís Figo to Marco Materazzi, will take to the pitch of the Batumi football stadium in Georgia’s Black Sea city alongside their Georgian counterparts in March, as part of the newly launched Legend Series aiming to create a “football celebration” in the country.
Shota Arveladze, Levan Kobiashvili, Giorgi Kinkladze and Temur Ketsbaia, some of the most recognised names of the Georgian national team and European clubs from across decades, will face Figo, Materazzi, Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso in the first of the matches for the new series.
In his comments to the Georgian Public Broadcaster, Arveladze said he was happy to pull on the jersey of the national team once again to face a “great team [with] many world-class stars”.
It is an honour for us to face Inter Milan, and we will try to play a decent game against great players. I'm sure [...] sports fans and former players will be very happy with this match. See you in March”, he added.
We are happy to return to Georgia, a country where Inter has not played since the 1970s. This match is a great opportunity to return to Georgia with the legends of our team, who will have a chance to play against outstanding Georgian players”, Alessandro Antonello, the Chief Executive Officer of the Italian club, noted.
He added the event would “further strengthen” the relationship between the two countries, and noted matches like the planned legends game were an opportunity for both new and seasoned fans to be involved.
