Sanctions on exceeding permissible norms of acoustic noise are being tightened in Georgia starting today, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced on Wednesday.

Kaladze said former fines for the violation had been insufficient for preventing them, failing to address what he called a “biggest problem”.

The amendments involve fines of ₾150 ($55) for individuals exceeding the norms during both daytime and night hours in residential blocks, private property or public institutions, with legal entities and individual entrepreneurs fined ₾1,500 ($559).

In case of repeat violations the fines for individuals will increase to ₾500 ($186), with entities and business owners having to pay ₾5,000 ($1,865).

For third and every subsequent commission of the offence the fine will be ₾1,000 ($373) for individuals and ₾10,000 ($3,731) for legal entities and entrepreneurs.
