Zhou Qian, the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia, on Sunday said high-level visits and contacts between the governments of China and Georgia were contributing to the deepening of cooperation in “various fields”, and further pointed out “we are already seeing tangible results”.
In an interview with the Georgian Public Broadcaster, Zhou noted Georgia was one of the countries that were “first to respond” to the One Belt One Road initiative of his Government, and was “still a very active participant in it”.
High-level visits and contacts between the governments of our countries contribute to the deepening of cooperation in various fields, and we are already seeing tangible positive results. There are results achieved through bilateral pragmatic cooperation. China has been Georgia's third-largest trade partner for a long time”, he said.
The diplomat highlighted the Chinese investment in Georgia amounted to $800 million, with the parties expanding cooperation in industrial parks, finance, energy and infrastructure, and other fields.
In my opinion, the greatest advantage of Georgia is its geographical location - it is located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and has signed free trade agreements with China, the European Union and the surrounding regions. I would also like to point out that exploiting this advantage requires coordination and joint support between China and the EU”, he continued.
Zhou added an increasing number of Chinese companies were interested in making investments in Georgia after the countries had established the strategic partnership this summer, and noted China had “already become an important source of foreign investments for Georgia”.
