Georgian citizens, politicians and representatives from various sectors gathered in Georgia’s capital city of Tbilisi for a march from the First Republic Square to Europe Square under the theme ‘Our Voice to Europe’.
According to the organisers the march aimed to convey a message to European leaders that Georgia seeks integration into the European Union and opposes alignment with Russia.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili also participated in the march, which culminated in the unfurling of a record-sized EU flag.
The march, organised by civil society, has been held in anticipation of the European Council's forthcoming decision on Georgia's candidacy for EU membership.
The European Commission on November 8 recommended the Council to grant Georgia the bloc’s membership candidate status. The final decision on the country’s candidacy is expected to be announced next week.
