Adjara Gov’t head inspects storm-affected areas

Tornike Rijvadze, the Chairman of the Government of the western Georgian region of Adjara, on Monday inspected areas affected by heavy rainfall and storm in cities of Batumi and Kobuleti.

The regional Government said Rijvadze inspected infrastructure and ongoing work for restoring the affected locations in the coastline boulevards in Batumi and Kobuleti.

The City Hall and emergency services have been mobilised. I urge everyone to refrain from entering the coastline as much as possible. Everything will be done to protect the safety of the population and quickly restore the infrastructure”, he said.

The official also said the works for repairing infrastructure would start as soon as the weather improved.

Batumi and Kobuleti mayors Archil Chikovani and Levan Zoidze were also involved in the inspection, along with relevant services of the both city halls.

The Emergency Management Service on Monday said firefighters, patrol police and criminal police departments had been mobilised to help citizens amid deteriorated weather conditions with strong winds, heavy precipitation and storms.

It also urged caution among residents of the country, with a "sharp deterioration" forecast in weather conditions for Monday and Tuesday, calling on those in coastal regions in particular to refrain from entering coastline areas due to storms.
