One charged in absentia for defrauding individuals using fake advertisements

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has charged an individual in absentia for embezzlement of ₾464,687 ($172,106) from citizens of the country using fake social media advertisements, the state body said on Thursday.

The Office said its investigation had found the offender, a representative of a furniture company, used fake social media advertisements and fraudulently embezzled money from customers through agreements for producing furniture items between 2021-2022.

The Office said the court had approved detention in absentia as a preventive measure against the alleged offender.

It also added search operations were ongoing for the wanted individual.
