Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Monday said “positive dynamics” observed in the domestic tourism sector this year were “very important”, leading to the industry generating a "record amount" of $3.3 billion in income in nine months.
In his comments Davitashvili said the revenue in the third quarter had reached about ₾0.5 billion ($184 mln), five percent over the same period of the previous year with a total growth of 29 percent, calling the figures an “encouraging indicator”.
He said the Government expected to “positively close” the annual tourist season and expected “favourable conditions” to continue in 2024.
The Minister said certain segments of the tourism sector reflected a “reduction or uneven distribution”, and noted the Government needed to address the outcome with the private sector.
Davitashvili also said preparation for the winter season were “actively underway”, and noted the coming season would be welcomed “in an organised manner”, noting the country’s winter resorts were “one of the important and high-income destinations” in the domestic industry.
