Georgian Justice Minister Rati Bregadze on Wednesday said “all necessary operative and search measures” were being taken to arrest three prisoners, who had escaped from custody earlier today while having a medical examination in the Aversi Clinic.

Bregadze noted the escaped prisoners did not pose a threat to society, adding “this type of crime happens in every country”.

The Minister called on the prisoners to surrender to law enforcement and “their liability for the offence committed today might be mitigated”. Anyone found responsible for not "fulfilling their legal liability" to prevent the crime would be brought to justice, Bregadze stressed.

He also urged the family members and relatives of the escaped prisoners not to provide “any kind of assistance” to the criminals, as it would be considered as “a serious crime” and they would be punished “with the full severity of the law”.
