In its comments, the state agency said a “reasonable period” would be set to eradicate identified non-compliances, with the next steps to be taken based on results of repeat visits to the country.

The Ministry also revealed it would inspect “all manufacturing enterprises” importing medicines in Georgia.

Inspection of manufacturers of imported medicines is an established practice in Turkey and Europe, and Georgia is actively cooperating with them within the ongoing pharmaceutical reform”, it noted.

The Ministry added the Georgian national GMP standards used in the inspection were in compliance with those recognised by the European Union.

The GMP standard has become mandatory for local companies manufacturing pharmaceutical products in Georgia since January 2022.
