The “positive cooperation” between the Georgian Government and the International Maritime Organisation, and support in the former’s implementation of reforms were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Kitack Lim, the Secretary General of the IMO.

The officials reviewed the importance of promoting transport connections on the Eurasian continent considering the “geopolitical situation”, and the significance of Georgia as a transit and logistics hub in this regard, the Government Administration said.

Garibashvili noted the country was “historically” a “natural bridge” between Europe and Asia, and further pointed out the strategic location allowed the country to “contribute to the revival of the [historical] Silk Road through the Middle Corridor under the umbrella of the Belt and Road Initiative”.

The Georgian official also stressed his Government was making “significant investments” in infrastructure to ensure the “possibility of generating sufficient energy generation in the coming years”.
