Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili and Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, the Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates, on Thursday discussed economic cooperation during a meeting hosted as part of the General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The Ministry of Economy said the meeting praised the recently signed economic partnership agreement between the two countries, with the officials saying it would create a “serious basis” for both trade and investment cooperation.

In comments after the meeting, Kvrivishvili said the UAE was “one of Georgia’s strategic tourist markets”.

We see that the demand for Georgia as a tourist destination in the Emirates is increasing. [At the meeting] we talked about stimulating direct air flights. [T]hree airlines operate direct flights from the Emirates to all three international airports of Georgia with a frequency of 40 per week, which particularly contributes to the growth of tourist flows”, Kvrivishvili said.

She added the meeting also discussed opportunities to increase bilateral trade and investments.
