Electoral reform in Georgia was discussed in a meeting between Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party and members of the United Nations Electoral Needs Assessment Mission, the Georgian Parliament said on Friday.
Kobakhidze provided “detailed information” on the reform, including the introduction of electronic voter registration and voting in the country ahead of the 2024 Parliamentary Elections.
The initiative came in accordance with the European Union’s conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status, in particular revisions to the domestic Election Code.
Members of the Mission expressed their readiness to “actively cooperate” in the implementation of the needs of the country’s election system.
