Kakha Kaladze, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday pledged support for Israel amid its ongoing conflict with the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
In his press comments, Kaladze, who also serves as the Mayor of Tbilisi, claimed the Georgian authorities had “always stood by the Jewish people, [and] it is the same today and [we] will remain a supporter of Israel in the future”.
We always stand by our friendly Jewish people as much as we can, and we will do everything to support them in the future as well. As for additional assistance, we will inform the public when such a decision is made”, he said.
At least 700 individuals have died and 2,000 were injured in Israel in the attacks organised by Hamas since Saturday, while a number of hostages have been held in the Gaza strip controlled by the militant group.
Retaliatory Israeli air strikes have also killed at least 413 people in Gaza and wounded 2,300 others, according to Palestinian officials.
