The Public Service Development Agency of Georgia on Tuesday said it had handed over the basic domestic signatory certificates to the International Civil Aviation Organisation to guarantee the validity of national biometric passports and electronic identity cards and simplifying border crossing procedures.

The Agency said the certifications, in conformity with the ICAO, enhanced the reliability of nationally issued travel credentials, enabling citizens with ID cards and biometric passports would pass through border checks easier.

Compliance of the country’s main signatory certificates with ICAO standards significantly increases the reliability of Georgian travel documents. As a result, Georgians with an ID card and a biometric passport will pass through border control more quickly”, the Agency stated.

Deputy Chairman of the Agency Vladimer Sitchinava presented the certificates to the ICAO in the city of Montreal, Canada, with the data uploaded to the Public Key Directory - a central repository for exchanging the information required to authenticate electronic ePassports, electronic ID cards and Visible Digital Seals.

The Georgian Agency said the Public Key Directory of the CIAO included data of 193 member countries to facilitate “safe and fast exchange of information about travel documents between states at the borders”.
