Turkey ($1.68 billion), Russia ($1.50 billion) and the United States ($1.02 billion) were the top trading partners of Georgia in its total external trade turnover in 2022, preliminary data from the National Statistics office of Georgia show.
Georgia's top partners by exports in 2022 were Armenia ($495mln), Azerbaijan ($485.3mln) and Russia ($416.2mln), while the top markets by imports were Turkey ($1.42bln), Russia ($1.08bln) and the US ($975.3mln).
The top export items were the following:
- Motor cars - $1.17 billion (32.9% of total exports)
- Copper ores and concentrates - $380.6 million (10.6%)
- Fresh grapes - $150.3 million (4.2%)
The three top import commodities include:
- Motor cars - $1.62 billion (19% of total imports)
- Petroleum and petroleum oils - $608.5 million (7.1%)
- Medicaments put up in measured doses - $307.7 million (3.6%)
Overall, Georgian external trade turnover amounted to $12.09 billion in January-July 2023, posting a 18 percent increase year-on-year.
The value of exports rose by 15.9 percent and equalled $3.58 billion, while imports also grew by 19 percent, amounting to $8.52 billion in the first seven months of 2023.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said in an interview with China Central Televsion the trade turnover between Georgia and China had grown by 400 percent following the signing of the free trade agreement between the two countries in 2018, adding China had “very rapidly” become the third-largest trading partner of Georgia.
Georgian external trade turnover amounted to $10.26 billion in January-June 2023, posting a 20.1 percent increase year-on-year, the Georgian National Statistics Office revealed on Thursday.
Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Genadi Arveladze on Friday said Georgia’s foreign trade turnover in 2022 had reached the “record level”, with the turnover increased by 34 percent and amounting to $19.18 billion, including the increase of export by 32 percent constituting $5.59 billion.
Georgia has exported locally produced goods worth $3.58 billion between January and July of the current year, marking a 15.9 percent year-on-year increase, the National Statistics Office said on Monday.
The renovated Turkgozu customs checkpoint opened at the Georgia-Turkey border on Sunday, the Georgian Finance Ministry said.
