Filmmaker Elene Naveriani’s latest feature claims Sarajevo Film Fest award for best feature film

The latest feature work Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry by Georgian filmmaker Elene Naveriani was unveiled as the winner of the Best Feature Film at the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival.

Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry star Ekaterine Chavleishvili also took the Best Actress honour at the festival.

Naveriani's Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry, the screen version of a novel by author Tamta Melashvili explores the private life of a single woman in her 40s in a town with conservative ideas.

Etero, a 48-year-old woman living in a small village in Georgia, never wanted a husband. She cherishes her freedom as much as her cakes. But her choice to live alone is the cause of much gossip among her fellow villagers. Unexpectedly, she finds herself passionately falling for a man, and is suddenly faced with the decision of pursuing a relationship or continuing a life of independence. Etero must grapple with her feelings and decide how to find her own path to happiness”

Naveriani and Nikoloz Mdivani produced the screenplay for Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry, with Agnesh Pakozdi contributing through photography. The feature is produced by the Swiss-based Alva Film, with co-production by Georgian-based Takes Film.

The film had its world premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival in May.
