PM highlights Didgori Battle as “greatest milestone” in Georgia’s history, determinant of Georgian identity on anniversary of historic date

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Saturday congratulated citizens on the 902nd anniversary of the Didgori Battle, fought between the armies of the Kingdom of Georgia and the Great Seljuk Empire near contemporary Tbilisi, by highlighting the date as “the greatest milestone” in the country’s history and “the most important determinant of Georgian identity and faith in future victories”.

I congratulate you on ‘Didgoroba’ - the day of invincibility and freedom of Georgia, unity and victory of Georgians”, Garibashvili noted.

I wish new victories, peace, reunification, strengthening and progress to our motherland", he concluded in the address on the date.

Georgia today celebrates the anniversary of the 1121 battle where an invading Seljuk army was defeated as a result of the effective military tactics of King David IV. The ‘Didgoroba’ celebrations are marked annually in the Didgori Valley, where the battle took place.
