The Georgian Civil Aviation Agency on Thursday said it would study the latest sanctions imposed on the Belarus national carrier Belavia before making an “appropriate response” on permissions for the airline to operate in Georgia.
The comment followed a fresh round of sanctions by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the United States Treasury Department against the company on Wednesday, for providing flights on Boeing aircraft in violation of restrictions issued after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The Georgian Agency noted it had already restricted Belavia operations in the country with the use of Boeing aircraft in June, following sanctions imposed on the company by international organisations of civil aviation and civil aviation manufacturing companies.
The Agency added that flights of the airline in the direction of Georgia were carried out using Embraer aircraft instead.
