The Government of Georgia has approved a plan for managing atmospheric air quality in the Central Zone of the country for 2023-2025, the Ministry of Environmental Protection announced on Wednesday.
The Ministry said the zone was one of six areas designated for the monitoring, with the others comprising the Black Sea, Western, Eastern and Highland zones and the Tbilisi Agglomeration.
The new plan covers the central-eastern city of Rustavi near Tbilisi, and municipalities of Marneuli and Bolnisi, where a “number of activities” related to the improvement of air quality are planned.
The plan includes expansion of air quality monitoring, assessment of the impact of air pollution on human health and efforts for raising public awareness.
The Ministry said the plan had been created with the support of the United Nations Development Programme and the Government of Sweden, with Ministry officials, international and local experts working on the document.
