Irakli Chikovani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday castigated Andriy Kasyanov, the Ukrainian Charge D'affaires in Georgia, for having “gone beyond all diplomatic framework” with his comment on a possible evacuation of Ukrainian nationals in Georgia in case of an inflow of Russian citizens and “subsequent threats” to the former.

Kasyanov made the remark in an interview for European Pravda on Tuesday, saying his office was discussing the possibility of the evacuation, as resumption of flights between Georgia and Russia could cause a “mass influx” of Russian nationals in the former and pose “threats” for the Ukrainian citizens who have been residing in the country following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that started in February 2022.

In his response, Chikovani said “[i]t is a pity that Kasyanov is completely beyond all diplomatic framework, to put it simply”, and called the comment “an absurd statement”.

“Georgia was one of the first states that had opened the door to our Ukrainian friends, sisters and brothers, to escape the aggression that Russia is conducting in their state”, the MP pointed out.

The lawmaker also stressed the Georgian Government had “proved and showed everyone” that it supported the Ukrainian citizens in the country “with its own resources, without the help of others”.

Talking about threats is absolutely fictitious and baseless”, Chikovani said in his rejection of the comment, also calling it “an extremely undiplomatic statement”.
