Natia Turnava, the Acting President of the National Bank of Georgia, on Thursday discussed economic trends in the country, questions related to domestic financial stability and projects implemented with the support of the European Union in a meeting with Pawel Herczynski, the bloc’s Ambassador to Georgia.

Turnava, the former Economy Minister of Georgia, also briefed the diplomat about the “consistent steps” being taken by the institution to ensure “full compliance” with the international sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus following Moscow's full scale invasion of Ukraine last year, NBG said.

The Acting President also highlighted the importance of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the EU for the development of the capital market in Georgia.

She pointed to Georgia's intention to join the Single Euro Payments Area and the legislative changes that had been implemented to ensure alignment of domestic laws with the bloc’s legal framework.

Turnava stressed Georgia was the first country from the South Caucasus region to apply to join the SEPA, which she said would make Georgia closer to the bloc’s membership, “significantly increase” the credibility of the Georgian financial sector in the international arena, and facilitate simplification of trade relations with the European Economic Area.
