The Georgian Interior Ministry on Wednesday launched an investigation into the death of a minor in a swimming pool of the Dreamland Oasis Chakvi hotel in western Georgia’s Adjara region.

The investigation follows the incident on Tuesday in which a five-year-old drowned in the pool designated for adults, with no witnesses to the moment reported.

A lawyer for the hotel told local media interviews were ongoing at a local police station in Chakvi, with the administration of the facility handing over surveillance camera footage to the law enforcement.

He also said both a professional from the hotel’s medical centre and a lifeguard had arrived on the scene “seconds after” the accident and attempted to resuscitate the minor.

The lawyer also told the press regulations did not require active lifeguards to be present near pools of the hotel.

A local told Interpressnews the minor had been spending holidays at the hotel alongside his mother.
