Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said the Georgian authorities would "not even leave an excuse for anyone" to block the country from being granted the European Union membership candidate status later this year.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted he would have a "detailed presentation" on the implementation of the EU conditions for granting the country the status to the Parliament on Tuesday.
The reality is that we have fulfilled all 12 conditions in principle. Maybe [there are] certain issues that the European Commissioner has talked about - we will have detailed explanations on that as well. In the end, we will not even leave an excuse for anyone to block us from being granted the candidate status”, Kobakhidze said.
“You know who is inside the country - and maybe there are forces outside the country too - who do not want to see Georgia receive the status of a candidate country, but we will do everything so that the European Council makes a positive decision”, the party official told the local media.
