Natia Turnava, the newly appointed First Vice President of the National Bank of Georgia, who currently serves as the Acting Chairperson of the institution, on Saturday said the independence of the Bank, guaranteed by the Georgian Constitution, would be “inviolable and protected”.
Turnava noted the Bank would continue cooperation with “all branches” of the Government “as usual within the scope of its mandate”.
She emphasised that despite different opinions regarding the National Bank, the decision to ensure the structural stability of the body was reached, which would “be good” both for the Bank and for the financial system stability of Georgia”.
The Council of the National Bank of Georgia on Thursday elected the former Economy Minister Natia Turnava as the First Vice-President of the Bank with the majority of votes.
The Georgian Parliament on Tuesday overcame Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili’s veto on the amendments to the law on the country’s National Bank proposed by the ruling Georgian Dream party.

Natia Turnava, the newly appointed First Vice President of the National Bank of Georgia, who currently serves as the Acting Chairperson of the institution, on Wednesday told sanctions officials from the European Union and the United States the Bank was acting “in full compliance” with the international sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
