After four years of operations in Georgia, Sebastian Molineus, the World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus, is wrapping up his duties in the country before moving back to the United States to continue working on “an important agenda” for the institution.

The World Bank on Thursday released a video in which Molineus says goodbye to Georgia, describing the departure as a “bittersweet moment” for him and his family.

Sweet, because we will be able to return to Washington to our home, [and] bitter because my family and I will have to leave Georgia, which has truly grown dear to our hearts over these past four years”, he said.

Looking back over the past four years, Molineus called it “truly an honour and a privilege” to serve as Country Director in Georgia.

He also recalled “truly remarkable” projects implemented in the country during his term, including laying foundations for building institutions and a “strong macroeconomic policy framework”, providing support to the Government during the Covid-19 period, supporting the “remarkable” Log-in Georgia project to connect 5,000 villages and almost half a million residents to the internet, building the East-West Highway across the country.

The World Bank announced Rolande Pryce would replace Molineus as the Regional Director in the South Caucasus starting September 1. Pryce is the official representative of the Bank in Rwanda.
