The European Union representation in Georgia on Tuesday said the reforms outlined in the country’s 2014 Association Agreement with the bloc were “important steps” towards the country’s final membership in the EU.

Making the comment on the ninth anniversary of the deal, the diplomatic office said the agreement was a “milestone that strengthens the bond between us as partners” and extended its congratulations to the country on this “special day”.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili also marked the date early on Tuesday by saying the “historic event” had given rise to a “consistent move towards the eventual integration of Georgia into the EU”.
