The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, along with the Parliament, has prepared the legislative amendments to the domestic criminal code to ensure the prevention of cruelty to animals, the Office said on Saturday.

The amendments imply stiffening punishment for ill-treatment and cruelty to animals, the body said, noting an information campaign, aiming to raise public awareness on the issue, would also be launched.

It added the campaign, conducted together with relevant state and non-governmental organisations, would include informational meetings with the public in various regions and cities of Georgia.
