Turkey ($925.3 million), Russia ($848.5 million) and Azerbaijan ($500.9 million) were the top trading partners of Georgia in its total external trade turnover between January and April, preliminary data from the National Statistics office of Georgia shows.
Georgia's top partners by exports were Armenia ($280.8 million), Azerbaijan ($261.9 million) and Russia ($226.2 million), while the top markets by imports were Turkey ($786.4 million), Russia ($622.3 million) and the United States ($412.5 million).
The top export items were the following:
- Motor cars - $595 million (30.3% of total exports)
- Copper ores and concentrates - $257.8 million (13.1%)
- Ferro-alloys - $84.4 million (4.3%)
The three top import commodities include:
- Motor cars - $727.9 million (16.1% of total imports)
- Petroleum and petroleum oils - $318 million (7%)
- Petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons - $250.6 million (5.5%)
Overall, Georgian external trade turnover amounted to $6.49 billion in January-April 2023, posting a 21.9 percent increase year-on-year.
The value of exports rose by 23.5 percent and equalled $1.96 billion, while imports also grew by 21.2 percent, amounting to $4.53 billion.
Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Vakhtang Tsintsadze on Monday said exports from the country had reached a “record high” figure in the first four months of 2023.
The Ministry of Economy cited Tsintsadze as saying the value of exports had risen by about 20 percent in April and reached $0.5 billion.
Between January and April, the figure increased by 23.5 percent and reached $1.96 billion, he also said, adding the increase in exports promoted economic growth in the country.
The European Union market has been becoming “more stable and predictable” for Georgian exporters, increasing exports of goods to the EU countries to a “record” number, Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Genadi Arveladze said on Friday.
