The Georgian Government on Monday launched the process of development of regulations and safety standards for paragliding across the country, ranging from locations suitable for the sport, certification and more.

The Government Administration said the meeting, led by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, approved outlining standards and rules in the following:

  • Suitability of flight locations and corresponding rules
  • Issuance of operator certifications
  • Requirements for pilots, procedures for assignment and recognition of the status, and facilitation of related tests
  • Requirements for determining suitability of paragliding equipment and their elements, and corresponding procedures
  • Competence, rights and duties of the Georgian Paragliding Federation
  • Supervision over the activities of the Federation

The Administration also said regulations would concern commercial, non-commercial and training flights.

They will not extend to experimental and demonstration flights, however the latter will still require adherence to certain regulations.
