Nicolas Rallo, the Regional Director of the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s European and North Atlantic office, on Tuesday highlighted “significant progress” made by Georgia in the implementation of aviation safety standards in its legislation at a meeting with the country’s Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili.
Within the framework of his official visit to Georgia, Rallo stressed the importance for the country to maintain progress and “reach even higher” levels of development, noting “Georgia has a great potential to become a regional leader”, the Economy Ministry said.
The activities carried out by the Government for increasing the safety of civil aviation and harmonising the country’s legislation with European law were emphasised by the Georgian Minister, with the ICAO official thanking him for the “active and fruitful” cooperation with the organisation.
Davitashvili pointed out the dynamics of flight resumptions, as well as the introduction of new airlines and the intensity of working on new destinations in the post-pandemic period.
The conversation also touched on the digitisation of the aviation sector and the possibilities of “green aviation” development, with the officials noting the importance of Georgia’s participation in the process of gradual implementation of the ICAO Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme.
