Bacho Dolidze, a member of the opposition United National Movement party, on Thursday said Vano Merabishvili, a member of UNM and the former Interior Minister, was bringing “nothing but destructive” effects to domestic political processes.
Dolidze called Merabishvili's allegation of the party’s failure to be “active” on the issue of Ukraine amid the Russian invasion of the country a “lie and absurdity”.
This is a blatant lie, an absurdity. This is really either a conscious or a thoughtless statement. We went to Ukraine several times, we made numerous statements [on the conflict]. If he does not remember all this, it is very sad”, Dolidze said.
“You know my position in relation to him - that, unfortunately, he brings nothing but destructive [effects]. I wonder why my friends are silent when he tells such a lie”, he concluded.
Georgia’s former Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili on Wednesday claimed ensuring the release of the imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili was one of the goals of the public protests held this week in Tbilisi over the controversial bill on transparency of foreign influence.
Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday responded to calls by a part of the domestic opposition and some MEPs for granting the imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili release or postponement of the rest of his sentence on medical grounds by saying the country’s European future “cannot be conditioned on Saakashvili’s stomach”.
Givi Mikanadze, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday said the Georgian Parliament was on course to complete implementing the priorities set out by the European Commission last year for granting the country a European Union membership candidate status by the end of its spring session.
Kakha Kaladze, the Tbilisi Mayor and the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said “any attempts by the radical wing” of the domestic opposition to replace the current authorities “through chaos and revolution” were “doomed to fail”.
Khatuna Samnidze, an opposition MP and the Chair of the Republican Party, on Thursday said the demand for snap elections by a part of the domestic opposition was “wrong and a political short-sightedness”.
Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday said the former United National Movement Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili and UNM Chair Levan Khabeishvili had a “desire” to cause a change in the domestic political scene through “staging a confrontation, a revolution, a coup”.
