Georgian customs officers return sawn timber, 42 tonnes of potatoes to Russia after inspection

The Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Control Division of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, as a result of the inspection, has returned 42 tonnes of potatoes, imported from Russia, back to the country from the Kazbegi customs checkpoint due to non-compliance with food safety requirements, the Service said on Wednesday.

The state body also said 69,867m3 of sawn wood had been returned to the exporting country from the same customs checkpoint, as the cargo had not complied with the phytosanitary standards.

As it was stated, under the Georgian Government’s resolution, the cargo was subject to the return to the exporting country.
