Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday announced his Government had approved a four-year strategy for reforming state-owned enterprises with the aim of establishing “appropriate corporate governance”.

The PM revealed the enterprises where the reform would take place would include Georgian State Electrosystem, Georgian Railways, United Airports of Georgia and Gas Transportation Company.

In comments at the weekly Government meeting, Garibashvili also announced a planned expansion of the Produce in Georgia state programme, with branches to be created in different regions to ensure accessibility for locals.

He said 20,000 entrepreneurs had benefited from the programme, with “billions of lari” invested and “tens of thousands of jobs” created.

“[However], in [various] regions people do not have the access to experience these services on the ground. Therefore, the Ministry of Economy will start creating Produce in Georgia branches in [these locations]", Garibashvili said.
