The first mothers' milk bank in Georgia will be unveiled at the Children's Central Hospital in capital Tbilisi to offer parents the choice of donated breast milk, the hospital announced on Thursday.

The goal of opening the women's milk bank is to help increase the rate of natural nutrition in the country and improve the standard of management of premature and high-risk newborns", the release said.

A continuous process of collecting, checking, storing and distributing donor mothers' milk "in appropriate conditions" will be implemented in the bank, the hospital added.

The healthcare venue also noted Georgia had already joined the European Milk Bank Association, a body providing information on over 200 milk banks in more than 20 countries.
